I have customers ask me all the time what I use on my bikes, or what I might suggest to meet their needs. I've put together a list of common problems customers come to me with, and the products I use to solve them. That way you can spend less time getting flats, having brakes that feel like they don't work, or trying to figure out where that creak is coming from. Let's get you back in the saddle and feeling confident!

SICK OF THOSE FLATS?

The most common question I get is "Is there a tire that I wont get a flat with?". The long and short of it is... Sadly no. When riding in big cities, your biggest adversary is going to be broken glass. When street sweepers clean, they often blow the debris from the middle of the road into cyclists path. Glass doesn't always cause an immediate flat, but instead works its way through your tire like a knife. The more bumps you go over, the more it digs into the rubber, eventually popping your tube. There isn't a flat proof tire or tube, but here are some really great ways to help prevent flats from happening.

CONTINENTAL GATORSKIN

The Continental Gatorskin is easily one of the most popular tires in the industry and over the years in shops I have sold thousands of these. They have excellent thorn and puncture resistance. The tire has a layer of kevlar that helps prevent glass and thorns from initially puncturing your tube. The sidewalls are supple, so the tire offers a really comfortable, fast, reliable ride.

SCHWALBE MARATHON PLUS

The Schwalbe Marathon Plus is arguably my favorite tire. This is more for the commuter than the performance road rider. It is a bit heavier. It also has a tread that is friendly to ride on gravel and dirt while still being efficient on the road. When it comes to going the distance and being a puncture resistance tire, this tire is an absolute beast.

KENDA KWEST

When it comes to mid tier priced tires, the Kenda Kwest has been holding it down for years. This tire is reinforced with a layer of flat protection and performs well on the road and on hard packed dirt and gravel. This tire is incredibly popular with commuters. It comes in at a great price and holds up to the abuse of city riding.

HEAVY DUTY TUBES

Heavy duty tubes are a bit more expensive than your average tube, because it takes more rubber to make. In fact, these tubes are usually six times thicker than your average tube, helping you prevent those pesky flats. Just remember that all rubber tubes are porous and naturally loses air over time. Make sure you stay on top of putting air in your tires weekly.  

TIRE LINERS

Tire liners can help fight flats in a major way. Liners sit in between your tire and tube, and add a thick layer of defense. Some people love them and some people hate them. For me personally, Ive always had pretty good luck with them in states where there are a ton of thorns and goat heads. Installed correctly, Liners are another excellent preventative to flats. 

SLIME

Everyone is familiar with the popular green goo in their tubes growing up. Slime consists of cotton fibers suspended in the green goo, and when you get a puncture, as the air rushes out, the cotton plugs up the hole and the sealant dries up and forms a bit of a patch so to speak. It is excellent against thorns and goat heads. You will have to stay up on your air a bit more frequently, because a hole is a hole, and it will still leak air, but this significantly slows air leaking out of a would be totally flat tube.
